Chit chat –

It was a bit of a shock, suddenly having the travel plans for Nigeria being postponed last Friday but, after the weekend’s news on the impossibility of flying anywhere, I felt rather relieved! So am now aiming to go out on 8th June for a week to set up the Creative Enterprise Coaching Programme for the British Council – it starts in Nigeria and then goes into other sub Saharan countries – am also taking Gordon Torr (author, Managing Creative People, ex head of JWT Latin America) with me as the first of 4 people to run Master Classes, which is an element of the programme – we met in Bilbao and I think he’ll be very good value for the more experienced creative entrepreneurs out there!
Great week last week – the innovation consultancies going extraordinarily well – complete re-energising and restructuring in one client company, took another for a very successful presentation to the Advanced Digital Institute, and commissioned by another to do another piece of work – I really love this stuff – the reaction is always so strong (and positive of course!) and we work with companies that grab the creativity and innovation links so enthusisastically! Also feeling very cheered because my paper has just been selected for the ESRC conference on the Future of Cultural Work in June – how exciting! And CIDA’s London conference in June is coming along well – part of our work under the ECCE Innovation programme – we’ve commissioned Graham Devlin to do a slightly provocative piece about the role of HE in Arts R&D which should be interesting! – and we’re getting a great line up of speakers: confirmed so far are: Mary Hofstetter from Banff, Julia Warmers from Academie Schloss Solitude, Scott deLahunta who works with Wayne McGregor, and Mette Quinn from the EU’s DG for Industry and Enterprise, who gave a terrific presentation recently about the role of the creative and cultural industries in stimulating inovation in other sectors – it all seems to have prompted the most stimulating conversations I’ve had for ages – and now starting deep discussions with Bernd Fesel about a major joint project with Ruhr 2010 – All this and a week in Poland coming up to celebrate Chopin’s birthday…..God’s in his heaven……..!
